The Urban Goth Aesthetic: How Streetwear Meets Darkness

Since middle school, I’ve been draped in all black rocking safety pins in my collar. Trust me, this was not the usual look for a kid going to school on 149th street in the bronx especially in the year 2000. Even with that I was still wearing my black timbs, I would still be wearing a du rag to keep my braids fresh, but at any given moment I could have As I lay dying cued up in my cd player or I could have Jay-z blasting in my headphones rapping every word bar for bar. This was the genesis of me.

Being an urban goth, Street Goth, Hood goth, however you want to title it, is just that. Someone who is into alternative culture but also from an urban enviornment. It's more of a mindset rather than just a look but with that being said lets breakdown the aesthetics.

I got a list of words for you. Black, leather, boots, chains, headgear, silver, layering and a bit of red for balance. That's the vibe for me.

being heavily influenced by the artists of the time growing up. I wanted to be tatted like my favorite metal bands but also cool and impress all the girls like my favorite rapper. this blend, over the years shaped my style into what it is today. not only has it influenced my look but it has been the core of every bit of art I produce. you can see this across all mediums, from Widows Peak the short film I wrote and directed to the music I release and of course through the clothes I create.

Currently, there's a whole moodboard dedicated to the look and style of the latest movie im writing called The Sleepless which takes place in a fantasy city called Lumetra City. This world and story is a sum of everything that has influenced me and I will dress every person in my universe  the way I see fit, even you. Thats why I made a quiz for people in the real world to see where you would be from in my fantasy world. fun stuff.

All in all the idea of an urban goth is something more and more people are getting intune with or finally becoming brave enough to embrace. My brand Coven x Coven gives you just that, goth energy while bringing that hood elegance.
